hi there my name is Mister Acuna I am the Bell High School magnet Algebra 1 Algebra 2 and geometry math teacher if you watching videos because your son or daughter is currently taking my clock in this video I will go over a couple of things of how my cost is run so one of the first things I give at the beginning of semester is my syllabus into mice in my syllabus you will see my course description for each Race Course dim supplement research that I tend to use and some materials that is required of the student to bring to class I also include other things such as you know when to get letter recognition what is my tenants and makeup work policy how can students achieve success in my classroom technology used in my in my my classes and most importantly how can your student pass my class will start here with grading system I follow the typical grading scale from 100 to 90% if that's what they scored overall and it from their 89 to 80 of b97 69 to 60 Audi 50920 is an f symbols that are used in schoology are this little green symbol here that's that's let me see assignment was excused and I rarely use this but if if I do it'll just mean that they're in an assignment on time I would Market missing these are symbols that are used on schoology and its symbol on their on their assignment that means that the assignment a score of a zero and it's missing until they turn it in what do you think about my my policy for late assignment is that students can still turn it in after the due date however they will only get 50% of the credit in my attendance and make it work Network may be accepted I will be awarded 50% credit or less so make sure you have your ear kids do their assignments on time the other thing that's important caste category weights this is how I break down certain assignments and tests in my classroom learning from online quizzes Which has now changed to all my quizzes and homework that is 50% of their grade expirations are percent of the Great Expressions are I'm switching over to having students do these during as a warm-up assignments our handouts are we working class either from the student journal or some that I tend to print out those are assignments are the are the ones that students must take pictures of once they are done and submit them online in schoology students watch online that show them how to do the math so that they do the at home and when it come to school we can we can do the work so that's worth by percent quizzes quizzes are different from from from quizzes are done on paper in my classroom that is worth 20% quizzes I usually give one quiz in the middle of every chapter tests are worth 30% by then I I do need to make sure that the student understands how to do the math and if the show Mastery or not they only get one test for chapter and at the end of the semester I to give a project and this one is with 15% so if you have these up it adds up to 100% so this syllabus was given to you at the beginning of Summer Strega is going to students shouldn't have to print it out I posted on my on my schoology side and if I receive this signed from from App Guardian I gave the students some credit for that so that's a syllabus right there I wanted things I tend to give my students at the beginning of every chapter is something called each chapter summary this is the new chapter for my algebra 2 students where we're heading to fill this out from their textbook journals in this case you have need to fill out find their definitions for the and then and then either included a example or a picture of of that. Vocabulary turn I also include here at the very top my my common core standards that are used in this chapter include any learning go perception as well as essential questions per section and then I also include things like Core Concepts where which are things that can help students out with certain areas such as this case Transformations for quadratics and these here these chapters summary students must must complete this before a certain deadline so that once it completed I stopped it and then there they are allowed to use it on the quiz or a test Dino using a throughout the entire chapter so it is important that students get lost and so now in class this is what we we tend to do in class we start off with like with with a section so this year's a section 2.1 transmission functions what is ND in the chapter summary you can see here the same essential question how do you constant a h n k affect the graph of quadratic function how to contest a h graph quadratic function essential questions that we try to answer so we start first start off by exploration because you know each section has two expirations this one only has one or two actually second one this case I would give students this as a warm-up they would do this for between 5 to 10 minutes and depending on how much the lesson on Big Ideas tells me to go to this Google real talk about it and then I'll go over some some notes that they can act vocabulary terms that were in the chapter summaries of students by then should have the words the definitions already filled out some * the book Away terms are used in The Core Concepts of the same Core Concepts or concepts that you would see in their various connections between a chapter summary and the notes that are given in class or result of translations vertical translations that you go so that's why I would prefer that students finish their Chopper Summers before coming to class there's more so usually we go over the notes and then from there we start with n with the math this is the extra practice for the section top 10 to do a few these you know I'll try to do a variety for each section that allows units to finish the rest this is their class work and so that students do the rest finish this up you know this is in their student Journal that that is left in class once they are done to take a picture of it and then they submitted to the proper assignment before we do something like this before I go over to end any notes for them or any expirations I have students do video tutorials let me go over that right now and go on to Schoology I know this is not. teaching two different classes so so that way in can see a little bit of everything but it all looks the same in schoology I do have my semester or I do have dissection separated by chapter so that students don't get confused with everything is pretty much organized starting for Pinot So within this check with in this folder I have the textbook for them to get taxes textbook online video tutorials for this chapter I have their student Journal as a digital one that they can access they can always print it out if they want to work on problems at home if they don't want to know take this assignment. students submit their there are extra practices quizzes and homework resources that they might want to use or you know if they need help with such as flash cards the resources there there chapter summary and then the rest is just quizzes and tests so let me go over video tutorial so you have that ready there's an example the video tutorial there's a video find area of triangle ABC one three three three three area of a triangle so what you can see here is Detroit examples in the textbook and and for the most part I can see I can see that day you know this one's only about minute and 23 seconds long directly to the point so this for this section for geometry for video tutorials 1.4 perimeter and area in the coordinate plane hat for video examples that they had to take notes on this is students take notes on these economies examples in their notebook as if I were to teach them and class the same thing and then is that the the following questions in 3 different posts and then they stand right here and then create a post on at select how do you classify polygons and I'll fix it here and then and then the answer the question so that.
