hello if you are watching this video that is because you have identified yourself as an independent student based on the circumstances on the list provided on the website determined that you are an independent student so here is a step-by-step on what you will need to do to complete the student section of the FAFSA form you will start by going to FAFSA. Gov it should take you straight to the application if not you're going to be able to just select the first option that appears on Google and you are starting the new form for the 2425 school year at this point you're going to have to login with your fsaid if you have not created one you can go to create accounts and create an FSA ID if you already have an fsaid just go ahead and put that and login and again you were starting a new form just as a disclaimer all the information that you see is from a demo account none of the information is accurate and real it's just a demo account so let's go ahead and get started you are a student so you will select students if you the chance please watch these videos it'll just give you a quick overview of what the FAFSA form is and the different types of financial aid available to you so just you have a chance watch that video for time purpose I am just going to skip through this so the first thing you have to do is just confirm and verify that all this information is correct this is the information that you included when you created your FSA ID one thing I do want to stay here about the permanent mailing address is that I want you to make sure that you put your real address I know sometimes we provide the school with a different address for enrollment form but for the FAFSA make sure you add your correct mailing address bring your students state of legal residence you will also select California this is a demo account I have to select New York it won't let me change that and down here if you were born in California you will add your birth month and your birth year if you moved to California you add the month and year that you moved to California now you can go ahead and read through this this is you just providing consent that the federal student aid access the information from the IRS to complete the form and then that'll make things a bit easier so just go ahead and read through that and approve now we're going into the questions so these next questions are about your personal circumstances so you as a student you will select your marital status is single now married and your plans for college or career still in the 2425 school year you will all be first year freshman so will select the hot and you're going to be obtaining bachelor's degree you will not already have it your Burly going to start working towards it so Will click no and then this is the list of the special circumstances or personal circumstances that you guys already soft and you know which ones you need to select and this is why you are considered an independent student so I will go ahead and just select one of these options you can select more than one now it's asking if at any point you were either homeless or self-supporting and at risk of being homeless so you put yes Uno and of course we already knew that because of the answers to the last few questions you are considered an independent student which means that you do not need to add any information about your parents to the FAFSA form we're going to ask information about yourself I want to go ahead and continue these next few questions the demographic questions are for research purposes only so you can answer them as you please and again these are just for research it's not going to affect your financial aid in any way so we'll continue your citizenship status your parents education if any of your parents were killed in the line of duty if they were in the Army law enforcement firefighters or anything like that we're going back to questions about you at the beginning of the 2425 school year you will already have your high school diploma and your high school attended we're going to add Bell high school but again because this is a demo account it doesn't let me add the high school so I'll just show you an example of what's going to happen Bells spell senior high is going to pop up here and we'll just select it continue and again it'll show you Bell Senior High right here and we're going to confirm and now we're going to go into your finances because you are an independent student there are going to be a couple more questions that you need to answer on your own so at any time during 2022 or 2023 did you or anyone in your family receive any of the following benefits income tax credit federal housing free or reduced-price school lunch we would all select this option because we do attend Bell High School which is a Title 1 school and we all get free or reduced school lunch again because this is a demo account it doesn't let me select the options Medicaid refundable credits supplemental nutrition assistance program snap so this is if you get any food distance EBT food stamps or anything like that supplemental income temporary assistance week or none of the above if none of these apply to you now they're asking from the 2022 tax return form is your household the same size or is it different so maybe in 2022 there were two people included on the taxes but now is that the same or is that different and if it's the same we will put know if it is different you will put yes how many people are going to be in college beginning July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025 so make sure you count yourself also for sure there's going to be one person in college and now again you did provide consent so your tax information is going to be taken from the IRS but there are going to be a couple of questions that you're I need to answer on your own if you did not complete Texas in 2022 we're going to go ahead and put zeros on all of these and continue to next BART here's the annual child support received and again this is money that you are receiving yourself now your student assets this is going to be where you include how much you have in your cash savings or checking's accounts for example if you have a college savings account you're going to type in how much you have in that not you're going to go ahead and add zero if you have any Investments or real estate if not zero and if you own any businesses and investment forms at their value if not you're going to add zero here's going to be where you add all the colleges that you applied to or you plan to apply to so we'll go ahead and search California again because this is a demo account it doesn't let me access any of the CAL States are you seized so I just want to show you that like the schools will pop up here and you just click on this box on the right and it'll add them to your list so you'll see two out of 20 School selected you can add up to 20 schools for the FAFSA form if you need to add more you can always just submit the form and then go back and check on the Bell website you're going to see that we added a list of the school codes that way it's easier for some of you to just go in type the school clothes search them School pop up and you just go ahead and add whatever schools you need to act you're just scared confirm that all the schools you needed a door added and we can continue to the review section so here you're going to see okay we completed all of these sections with the green check we are just missing our signature again because you are independent we don't need to worry about adding parent information we all I need to worry about your information and we will continue this is you signing and submitting the form confirming that everything is correct and then just going through the terms and conditions so if you do have it that's going to read through those and you'll select I agree to the terms above and you'll sign and submit so this is your verification that you did submit your FAFSA form it'll tell you your estimated student aid index again like I said that's the number that the college has used to determine how much a do you qualify for and you'll also be able to see here based on the eligibility criteria you may be eligible for the Pell Grant and up to how much money of the Pell Grant you'll be able to eligible for go down a little bit and you'll see what happens next make sure you check your email that you receive an email version of this confirmation page then you're going to receive notification of processing the let you know when your form was process when it was sent you to your school and then you're going to receive formation from the schools where they're going to send you your financial aid package to let you know okay this is how much you're going to receive in Grants this is how much we're going to assist you and this is how much we expect you to pay pocket so just make sure that you're consistently checking your emails and staying up to date with all of that information if you have any questions or you need assistance completing your form please stop by the college Center and will be then happy to us
