hello everyone if you are on this video that is because depending on the information above you have recognized that you are going to be a dependent student on the FAFSA form so this is going to be a step by step instructions how to complete the student section of the FAFSA form if you are a dependent student so you are going to start by going to FAFSA. And it should thank you straight into the application if it doesn't it's going to be the first option that pops up on Google so you are going to start a new form for the 24255 sub once you on that it's going to take you to the login information at this point you will need to include the information from your FSA ID if you have not created an fsaid you're going to have to go and create an account don't hear if you already have an account you can just go ahead and type it in and log in the information that you are going to see on the screen is from a demo account so none of the information mission is corrector accurate it's just a demo account so I will start a new form and I am starting the FAFSA form as a student it's going to you guys a couple of videos just so you guys understand what FAFSA is and give you an overview of what the information collected what it's used for and what type of financial aid is available for you so if you have the chance go ahead and read through all of that information I am going to skip through just for time purposes I'm here I want you to make sure you go through the information and make sure it's all correct and accurate this should be the information that you input when you created your fsaid one thing I do want to let you know is for the permanent mailing address make sure you include the address that you live in I understand that sometimes we have to use a different address for school so you give Bell High School different address just so you can stay and rolled but for the financial aid assist you need to include your actual permanent mailing address and then continued like I mentioned this is a demo account so I can't change the state I'm going to keep it as New York but at this point you would put the state of California and for the month and year you are going to and put if you were born in California you're going to input your birthday if you move to California you're going to input when you moved to California and now this section is just you providing consent and approval to be eligible for student aid so go ahead and read and it's you pretty much giving permission for the IRS for the the federal student aid to get your information from the IRS and access your information and things like that to see if you qualify now we're going to go and see your personal circumstances these questions are about you the student so make sure you answer them correctly so we will put your Bill status what are your College and Career plans for the 2425 school year you will be a first year freshman and you will not have your first batch is degree yet that is what you're going to start working towards so we will put no for this question here are the student personal circumstances that you saw where it determines whether or you are considered a dependent or independent if you are watching this video that is because none of these apply to you oh now it's asking if at any point you were why they're homeless or self-supporting and at risk of being homeless and these are any unusual circumstances that may prevent you from contacting your parents to get their information or to have them complete the parent part of the FAFSA form if any of these circumstances prevent you from contacting your parents you will put yes here and is going to come are you an independent and you are going to have to work with the financial aid offices at each of the colleges that you applied to in order to obtain your financial aid package because it is to the discretion of the schools to determine whether or not you will still be considered a dependent student or you will be considered an independent student and they'll accept your application without any parent information but for the most part we will put no and continued and again you should if you're watching this video you should already know that you are dependent student so you will have to include your parent information if your parent is not to share their information on the FAFSA form you will put yes if if this happens you will only be able to apply for student loans you will not qualify I forgot it's so just be mindful if your parents do not provide financial information on the FAFSA form you will not qualify for Grants so we want to make sure that we get that information and we will put no because they are give us that information so now with these next couple of questions they're going to determine whether you need to include only one parent on the FAFSA form or if you need to too so we'll go through the different scenarios just so you guys can have a better idea of whether or not you're going to need to include one or two parents first question are your parents married to each other if answer is yes you're going to have to include both of their information if the answer is no the next question is do the parents live together if they live together your I have to include both of them if they do not live together they want to know does one parent provide more financial support than the other typical is this week referring to in most cases which parent claims you on the taxes if you are 50/50 with both of the parents then you will talk to them to see if either one provides more financial who you should include on the application but if there is one parent that provides the most financial support we will include that parents then we need to say whether or not that parent has remarried they did remarried and you have a step parent you're going to have to include both of them if they have not remarried you only need to worry about including one parent but if we go back to the financial support question parents provide the same amount of financial support to you and we put no it's going to ask you're going to have to add the parent with the grade income or at assets that means that you're going to have to include the information of the parents with the higher-income now they're going to ask if that parent with the higher income has remarried or not again if they are remarried you're going to have to include both so let's continue So based on your answers you high your parent and their spouse or partner that have to be included on this section as long as you add and the information for one parent you should be fine and you will be able to continue to the next part so hear social security number if your parent has a social security number included here if they do not have a Social Security number you are going to select the spa and all you're going to have to do is put their mailing address if they have a Social Security you just put their email the reason that this is different is because the Parents Without Social Security numbers they're going to have to do what they call an ID the tever fication when they try to create their fsaid and that's just for them to know that the person creating the account is who they say they are so we'll go ahead and just put a email at gmail.com with the email make sure that your parent has their own email and they cannot use the same one if you include two parents they're going to need their own separate emails let me just ask random numbers you sent invite so as long as you send the invite to one pair he should be fine. Parents will be able to add the information for their spouse or partner unless you have the information for both parents then you can add both of them yourself and we'll go ahead and continue student demographics these are just for research purposes any information that you answer here is not going to affect your financial aid package and anyway so you can duties to the best of your ability or you can just prefer not to answer and ask about your race then race and ethnicity and you can just continue now here's your citizenship that is continued your parents educational background continue their asking now if any of your parents were killed in the act line of duty so they work in law enforcement in the Army As A Firefighter any emergency personnel and now we're going back to students in the beginning of the 2425 school year you will already have your high school diploma and we are going to add the high school because that is going to be where you receive your diploma again because this is a demo application it's not going to let me actually add Bell but I just want to show you that when you search for the school bell will pop up right here as Bell Senior High School you'll just click on it and select continue and you'll see that it adds the school so just make sure that you do select Bell Senior High now this next section is your finances if in the year 2022 you worked and you completed taxes you are going to have to put that information for the most part the IRS you gave the consent so they are going to be able to automatic upload your tax information there may just be a couple of questions that you need to fill out on your own so you'll be able to see answer the questions that they need completed most part if you did not work during the 22 texture you will just put zeros for all of these now it asking about your assets any money that you might have so many cash savings and checking's accounts this is more if you guys have a savings specifically maybe like a college savings or anything like that with higher numbers not will go ahead and add zero next is your net worth of Investments including any real estate that you might own if nothing zero and then your businesses and investment forms so like I said for the most these will also all be zeros and we can just skip to the next part here's going to be where you go in and select and add all the colleges that you applied to or that you plan on applying to you can add up to 20 schools so that's a good thing with the new application is that it lets you add up to 20 schools so we'll go ahead and select the school again since this is a demo account it doesn't let me go in and look for any of the top seeds in the use these so I'll just go ahead and add one of these schools and you'll be able to sleep so I added 1 out of 20 for another option that you have is you can search by the school code if you see on the Bell website we posted a list with a different School codes for the more common schools that students are applying to like the Cal states in the these and some other private schools in California so you can go in and just type those numbers the 6-digit school code and you'll get that list of schools just added and there you'll see two out of 20 schools you can just go ahead and add all the schools you applied to and click continue is it just the confirmation that you added all the schools and this is the last step so you'll be able I see go ahead and review all the information you and put the little green check mark tells you that you completed that section all we need is a signature and then your parent hasn't created their accounts I need them to do that once you add your parent and they created their fsaid you also down here it'll pop up and show you which sections they have completed and which sections they still need to complete in mind. If your parents do not complete their section of the FAFSA your FAFSA form will not be submitted which means that you will not be considered for federal student aid so make sure that you complete your section and your parent completes their section that's the only way your FAFSA form is going to actually get submitted if everyone does their part and will continue and you're just going to read through this and you signing a saying like all the information is correct to the best of your knowledge and it's also giving you a little information about your account and all that stuff so we'll go ahead and sign and you are done with the student section so the only thing that's next is the parent contributor part so make sure your parents go in and complete their section in order for your actual FAFSA form to be done so you'll see what you can do next check your email to make sure that you received an email version of the confirmation and it'll show your FAFSA forms still needs contributor information once your parents complete their part you'll be able to view your FAFSA submission summary and that's going to be there you'll be able to view all the information I got submitted and you might be able to see your student aid report also so that is it for the demo for the student completion for dependents students if you have any friends or need assistance please stop by the college Center and will be more than happy to assist you in completing your application
