Happenings for September 2016 in the College Center:

The following are current happenings for September 2016 in the College Center:

  1. The College Center is continuing to register seniors for the SAT and ACT Exams.  Students can register anytime during the school day with a pass. Ideally, seniors should be taking these exams for the second time in October or November. Juniors will take the ACT and/or SAT for the first time in May and June of 2017.

  3. Admissions representatives from various universities are scheduled to present to our students throughout September and October.  I have attached the College Center Calendar so that you can share this information with your students. Passes to attend university presentations are available in the College Center, all grade levels are encouraged to attend.

  5. East Los Angeles College Courses began this week in Room 133 after school. We are offering Criminal Justice 1 every Monday from 3:00 pm to 6:10 pm. Psychology 1 is being offered every Wednesday from 3:00pm to 6:10pm. Both courses are transferable to the CSU and UC Systems. Students can sign up in the College Center or report to class next week.

All 10th and 11th grade students will take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 19, 2016.  Any 9th grade student that wants to take the PSAT must pick up an application in the College Center and pay $15 at the student store. Homeroom teachers, thank you in advance for assisting with the administration of this exam. Familiarity with the PSAT exam structure will improve student’s scores when the SAT is taken during their Junior and Senior year. This exposure increases the likelihood of students applying to and attending four year universities.

College Center Reminders:

-PSAT/NMQST will take place at BHS October, 19th at 7:30 am - Extended Homeroom Schedule.

-California State University (CSU) application opens October 1st. Due Date – November 30th.

-University of California application opens August 1st. Due Date - November 30th.

-Private Universities typically use the Common Application and have different application deadlines. Students must check with each campus individually.
